Why Am I Poorer Than You?  It's Not Fair?  The gods hate me?
News From A Recent World Bank Conference

World Bank president James Wolfensohn attacked rich nations for spending hundreds of billions more on their militaries and their farmers than they do helping the poor.

His opening speech included, "Our planet is not balanced.   Too few control too much and too many have too little to hope for."

He went on to criticize rich countries for providing only $56 billion per year for developmental assistance to poor countries compared with more than $300 billion they spend on agricultural subsidies and $600 billion spent on defense.

The failure of recent global trade talks where delegates from several poor nations walked out leaving wealthier nations in Cancun, Mexico, highlights the serious divide that must be overcome to create a stable future, Wolfensohn said.

Perhaps after this diatribe Wolfensohn adjurned for cocktails, dinner, wine, entertainment and then on to his 5-star hotel?

1.  Some nations have less success over centuries than other nations have over the same period.

Why are there consistent, long-term patterns of successes and failures around the world?  For example, some patterns can be observed in certain nations that continue to be successful over centuries regardless of wars, famines, dictators, and so on.  Yet other nations can be observed to consistently fail at self-governing, growing enough food to feed their populations, and maintaining domestic peace.  In fact, some of the least successful nations in terms of reaching and holding high standards of living are successful only in growing the most vile, despotic, despicable, killing dictators while keeping the majority of their people ignorant and poverty-stricken.

Why?

People have different skill levels
Some people are lazy, some are hard working
Some nations have few natural resources
Some nations never try
Some nations depend on rich nations' handouts
Rich nations are just mean

2.  If I am not successful over several years, I might: Try harder
Try some other career
Try another employer
Take some classes
Sit down & beg
Go on welfare
Complain that life is not fair
Complain that God is not fair
Complain that the gods are not just
Grow poppies & sell drugs to successful nations' failing populations
