4.  Millions of people fought during the 1930's and 1940's to end the global economic depression and World War II.  By the 1950's they had ended the depression and defeated their military enemies.  Do you think people were generally happier because they just wanted to be done fighting and go on about their lives in reasonable prosperity and peace? 6.  Starting in the mid-1960's and extending into the 1990's, millions of people fought to change cultural boundaries for women, gays, various races and nationalities and to end the Cold War environment.  By the 1990's many people were raised in a culture of divisive hatreds and learned to disregard any progress made for their particular special interest groups.
