      There are over 100,000 books published annually in the United States.  What was the real reason she stopped recommending books?

Just what she said -- Oprah wouldn't fib.
The publishing industry asked her to stop. because it was negatively impacting book sales.
She wanted to insult the publishing industry.
There really are no good books published anymore.
